Mohammed Hassan Al-Roumi sustained a serious injury to his right eye after Bahraini security forces fired tear gas at elementary students south of the capital Manama.
According to reports from the village of Sitra, the police unleashed tear gas canisters on elementary students on Wednesday morning.
A Bahraini human rights activist Ibtisam Al Sayegh told the LualuaTV website that security forces apparently confused a group of children leaving school with a gathering or protesters.
The kingdom’s interior ministry later claimed that police thwarted an attempted attack on Sitra’s police station, adhering to “legal regulations.”
The Manama regime often resorts to arresting and beating peaceful pro-democracy protests across the country.
